Research brief: Software that reduces missed appointments for small dental clinics

One idea, independent dental practices with 1 to 3 dentists as the customer, 8 products. The register held 3; research added the 5 established tools practices actually buy.

What we found
The register shows one dental newcomer, Patientdesk.ai. The wider check found at least five established vendors that all state reminder or no-show features, and one of them, Weave, was taken private on 26 October 2026.
Why it matters
Working from the register alone, the market would look empty. In fact appointment reminders appear to be a standard feature dental practices already buy, often bundled with phones, texting and marketing.
Still uncertain
Real prices for most vendors, RevenueWell's current owner, and independent evidence that any tool reduces no-shows.
Do next
Ask 5 to 10 small practices what still goes wrong after reminders are sent, and test whether outcome-priced recovery of missed appointments is an opening.

The findings in detail

  • Coverage lesson: the launch register had 3 records for this idea, and only Patientdesk.ai says it addresses missed appointments. None of the five established reminder vendors is in the register. A register of launches shows new entrants, not the market a founder will compete against, which is why a checked brief searches beyond it.
  • All five established tools checked (Weave, NexHealth, RevenueWell, Lighthouse 360, Solutionreach) state appointment reminders or no-show reduction on their own sites. Basic reminders appear to be standard, not a gap.
  • Pricing is mostly hidden. Only Weave shows a figure ('starting from $199 per month'); Patientdesk publishes full prices, including per-outcome fees such as A$15 per recovered missed appointment that's attended.
  • The market is moving: Weave completed its acquisition by Francisco Partners on 26 October 2026 and left the NYSE; Lighthouse 360 is a Henry Schein One brand; several vendors now sell AI receptionists alongside reminders.

Who each sells to, and how it works

Patientdesk.ai
Dental practices specifically, priced by chair count.States it: 'Confirm upcoming visits, help patients reschedule… and recover missed visits.'Note: The search labelled this a possible competitor because its launch description didn't mention appointments. Its own site does.
Dime (DimeHealth)
Healthcare operations teams generally; dental isn't mentioned.Indirect only: an AI phone attendant can schedule and reschedule. No reminder or no-show feature stated.
Untether Labs
Care teams at health systems; dental isn't mentioned. No: it schedules staff, not patients. Not in this market.Note: The search flagged it as a possible competitor from the word 'scheduling'. Checking settles it: different job.
Weave

NexHealth
Dental and medical practices, 'one office or a few'.States it: 'Reminders: eliminate patient no-shows.'
RevenueWell

Lighthouse 360+

Solutionreach

What remains unknown

  • What a 1 to 3 dentist practice actually pays for NexHealth, RevenueWell, Lighthouse 360 or Solutionreach. None publish prices; finding out needs a sales quote.
  • Who owns RevenueWell now. Secondary sources name different buyers and no primary announcement was found.
  • Whether any of these tools measurably reduces no-shows. Vendor results are self-reported case studies.
  • Patientdesk's US pricing; the page defaults to Australian dollars and the US figures didn't load.

What to find out next

  • Interview 5 to 10 practices with 1 to 3 dentists about which reminder tool they use, what they pay, and what still goes wrong after reminders are sent.
  • Watch whether Weave's pricing or packaging changes under Francisco Partners; a shift could open or close room for a cheaper entrant.
  • Test whether outcome-based pricing (Patientdesk's model) or a narrower missed-appointment recovery step is a gap the incumbents don't already cover.
