subscription tracker from screenshots

We said MAYBE on August 15, 2026. Not settled — due August 15, 2027.

Read this with the caveat. We tested the engine that produced this verdict against 292 launches whose outcomes we already knew, and could not show it predicted which survived. Some of its data sources were also dead at the time of scoring. The verdict stays up, dated and unedited, because a record you can quietly revise is not a record — but it is worth less than it looked when it was written.

Demand is proven commercially (4 paying products) but silent socially, putting it in the middle of the range. The screenshot-OCR wedge against tired indie incumbents is real and solo-buildable, but it's a thin feature moat with no organic demand pull, making this a plausible-but-unremarkable build rather than an obvious yes.

Was there demand

5out of 10

Four competitors are actively charging money for subscription tracking, which proves commercial demand, but social channels and keywords are empty—no Reddit posts, no relevant HN threads, stable search with no strong keywords.

Could a builder win it

6out of 10

A specific, shippable wedge exists—screenshot OCR-to-subscription that no incumbent offers—and several incumbents are beatable indie apps (Bobby, Subtrack) with outdated UX, though Rocket Money is funded and well-resourced.

The case against this verdict

The screenshot-OCR wedge is a feature, not a moat—Rocket Money or Bobby could add it in a sprint, and with zero social demand and no search keywords, you'd be spending scarce solo-founder energy manufacturing a market rather than capturing one. A privacy-first, no-bank-connection tracker also strips away the exact data hook (transaction visibility) that makes Rocket Money's auto-detection valuable, so you may win the demo and lose retention.

Who was already there

  • SubtrackLimited screenshot automation, requires manual input, no AI-powered categorization, basic UI
  • Truebill/Rocket MoneySubscription tracking is secondary feature, heavy focus on general budgeting, bloated interface, not mobile-first
  • BobbyOutdated design, slow customer support, limited integration options, no screenshot OCR capability
  • Trim/PrismSubscription features underdeveloped, focuses too much on bill negotiation, poor mobile experience

Other verdicts

What is worth more than this page. The register records what became of 6,266 real launches. No engine has to be right for that to be true.
